The production of the express train corridor coaches that had no air conditioning and were based on the UIC-Z specifications, started in the 1980es. The new coaches were painted in the green and beige livery of the DR. This was normal for all express train coaches from the mid-1980s. When the coaches were not used in express trains on the lines of the German Democratic Republic, they were frequently used in transit and international trains.
