Messerschmitt Bf 109 "Secret Mission"
The aircraft with the large American flag belonged to the Romanian Air Force and was previously flown as "White 31" by Lieutenant Dusescu. For safety reasons, however, the machine was given this special designation with the large flag because it was used for a secret mission. In August 1944, the highest-ranking American pilot, Lieutenant Colonel James A. Gunn III, was flown out of Romanian captivity in the aircraft controlled by Captain Constantin Bazu Contacuzio. The aim of the machine was Foggia in Italy.
